Catching Up: May 23, 2011 The Tate Modern

The Avenger

After Nathan, Olivia, Matt, Andy and I all got tickets for In Conversation with Henry Goodman (The Holy Rosenbergs) at the National, we went to the Tate Modern to try to put a dent in it. We barely conquered the fifth floor due to some fantastic exhibitions.

• "You don't want to be limited by the things that shape you."
• There's an energy in the thinking that is shared with the audience.
• "Intelligence liberates instincts."
• The codes of English theatre is in what is not said --> Different self use between American roles and English roles.
• "Inside every actor is a peacock and a priest."
• It is so important for us to use the character's vocabulary of their situation and not the actor's or the audience's vocabulary.
